DLP projection TV technology is based on a postage stamp sized
device with over a million moving mirrors on it called a Digital Micromirror Device, or DMD. The Texas Instruments DMD panel is immune to the factors that can
cause the performance of other display technologies, such as conventional cathode ray tubes (CRT), plasma display panels (PDP),
liquid crystal display systems (LCD and LCOS), and film to
deteriorate with ongoing use. The DLP panel is
unsusceptible to the damaging effects of heat, humidity,
vibration, and aging.
A major advantage to DLP projection TVs over LCD projection televisions is that DLP TVs typically produce deeper, darker, blacker blacks for better
contrast. You also tend to get better picture detail, without worry about the "screen-door" effect sometimes
experienced with LCD projection. An excellent way to help you decide once and for all whether to choose an LCD,
LCOS, or DLP projection television is to read some rear projection TV reviews before you take the plunge. The two main DLP projection TV manufacturers remaining are Mitsubishi and Samsung. |
